Tastings are one of our favorite parts of the wedding planning process. They’re quiet, personal, and full of anticipation — a small table, real plates, and the chance to imagine your favorite people gathered around food that feels just right.
At Farmhouse Table, we treat every tasting as more than just a sampling. It’s a conversation, a working session, and a warm welcome into the experience we offer. We host most tastings at our Whipple Lane event space in Irondequoit — a cozy, flexible venue that lets couples see and feel how their day might unfold.
We usually start with a curated menu based on the couple’s preferences — often with inspiration from the season or the story they’re trying to tell. The food is thoughtfully plated and served in courses, with time to pause, reflect, and ask questions along the way. We’ve found that even the simplest dishes become meaningful when there’s space to talk through them.
One of the things we love most about these moments is the atmosphere. There’s no rush. It’s a quiet table in a private space. Often a parent or close friend joins. There’s laughter, note-taking, maybe a few second helpings. It’s the first time many couples see their wedding day begin to take shape.
Tastings give us a chance to go beyond ingredients. We talk about service flow, timing, rentals, dietary considerations, and how to make a buffet or plated meal feel seamless. Our team shares advice from past weddings — what’s worked well, what to think about, and how to build in flexibility. It’s collaborative and honest, because we genuinely care about getting it right.
The Whipple Lane space supports that process beautifully. It’s intimate but not cramped, and we often use the tasting as an opportunity to walk through layout possibilities or visualize the bar and buffet setup. Seeing it in person helps couples ask better questions, and it helps us give better answers.
Every tasting is a little different, but they all share the same goal: to help couples feel confident and taken care of. We’re showing the heart of what we do: serve delicious food, provide thoughtful service, and create a sense of ease around the most important day of someone’s life.
One recent tasting included a small charcuterie board (with items available at Farmhouse Table Shop) as a starter, served on heart-shaped bamboo plates — a playful, personal detail that got immediate smiles. Little touches like that often spark ideas for welcome tables, cocktail hours, or late-night snacks. These conversations help uncover the things that matter most to the couple, even if they weren’t sure what those things were at the start.
If you’re early in your wedding planning journey, or if you’re just starting to think about catering, a tasting is a great way to get to know your team and see how everything works. You’ll get to try some of our favorite seasonal offerings, explore menu possibilities, and start visualizing the flow of your day — all while sitting at a table where we’ve hosted scores of celebrations.
At Farmhouse Table, weddings are a cornerstone of what we do — not just because we love the food, but because we value the relationships. Our team brings years of experience to every event, but we never treat it like a formula. Each couple gets our full attention, our best ideas, and our honest care from the first conversation to the final clean-up.
We know how much trust it takes to hand off part of your day, and we don’t take that lightly. A great meal can anchor a celebration — and we’re here to make sure it feels like yours.
We know how many decisions go into a wedding. Our goal is to make the food part feel clear, collaborative, and a little bit joyful. If that sounds like your style, we’d love to welcome you to the table.
